The Girl Who Turned Opportunity into Independence

A 17-year-old student is proving that the right opportunity can create entrepreneurs, strengthen families and transform rural Bangladeshi village life.

At an age when many young people are still deciding what they want to become, Rubaiya Jannat Sabrin is already building her future.

The 17-year-old student from Paschim Majher Tek lives with her parents, Abu Salam and Shirina Khatun, and her younger brother. Like many rural families across Bangladesh, life has never been easy. But Sabrin refused to let her circumstances define her future.

Through Futuredesh, she was given the opportunity to manage a 500-bird poultry farm.

It wasn’t a donation.

It wasn’t charity.

It was an opportunity.

After just one production cycle, Sabrin generated nearly ৳12,000 in profit. That income is helping to pay for her education while supporting her parents and contributing to her family’s household expenses.

For many people, ৳12,000 may not seem life-changing.

For Sabrin, it represents independence, confidence and the beginning of a new future.

Over the course of the year, Sabrin is expected to earn around ৳100,000 through her poultry enterprise, an income that will allow her to continue her education, support her family and begin building financial independence at just 17 years old.

Her journey does not end there.

Through the Futuredesh Village Enterprise Centre, we will continue to work alongside Sabrin, developing her farming expertise, strengthening her business knowledge and helping nurture her entrepreneurial ambitions. Our goal is not simply to help her manage a poultry farm, but to support her in becoming one of the next generation of rural business leaders.

The most remarkable part of her story is what made it possible.

A Futuredesh investor contributes ৳100,000 (approximately £620) into a poultry investment package.

That same investment gives a young farmer like Sabrin the opportunity to build a sustainable business while the investor is projected to receive ৳138,000 after 12 months—a projected profit of ৳38,000. For UK investors, an investment of approximately £620 is projected to return around £860, representing a projected profit of £240.

It is a simple model with extraordinary outcomes.

The investor earns a return.

A young entrepreneur earns an income.

A family gains financial security.

A student stays in education.

A village grows stronger.

Sabrin’s story reminds us that transforming lives does not always require millions.

Sometimes, it begins with a £620 investment, one determined young woman and a belief that opportunity can change everything.

Make Money. Do Good.
